Many times, artwork is looked at from a distance, which during this time would coincide with the mandatory 6ft apart. However, Andrew Brischler designs his pieces to be eyed closely. For them not to be viewed as a quick glance but how one would read or watch tv, engrossed. Andrew Brischler puts his all into his artworks, everything that he feels, from what is going on within his life to what is happening within society. For him, his work takes precedence, working normal hours from 9am-6pm every day in his studio, and being as precise as he could be with his drawings. Previously, Andrew Brischler focused on expressing events that were happening in the world through typography and various colors in a very clean and precise manner, following his direction from his school days.

Within his undergrad days, Brischler had completed many figurative pieces but had transitioned his graduate studies to typography. Typography drew his interests but he had said that no one else within his classes had appreciated it as much. I had found his transition from figurative to typography quite interesting. Figurative shows curves and is more natural while typography is more of a computer-based design of letters and fonts with precise, clean lines. He did continue to use his methodology; precision and sharpness, a type of perfectionism. Here he places the word or phrase within the center of the panel- which he first worked with before covid and working with heavy-duty paper- and had design around it completed with color pencil. Other pieces just had designs, a graphic design almost with how clean everything was done.

Within these pieces they were done with precision but he had added an extra layer to each of his pieces which made the viewer look closer. He wanted everyone to know that these seemingly graphic designs, computer-based looking art pieces are not what people think they are, they are all handmade. The destructive look with swirls within the letters and edges messed up, I believe make the pieces enticing and hypnotic, the way it forms an illusion that moves with you. It almost seems like he wants to connect the industrial world to the manual world, to show how we, as a whole, have become dependent upon technology but can still see the beauty around us.

Within his pieces the connection between technology and nature forms a type of communication, a deeper meaning. An expression of what is going in within his life, especially with all that has happened this year. Here the expression relives him and his stressors and convey to the observer his view of events but in his style similar to pop-culture and horror/thriller movies.

Andrew Brischler’s art work have their own presence, a deeper meaning which connects what is going on in the world at specific moments but not forcing his own ideals onto another. His pieces are very engrossing to look at and become even hypnotic when learning it was all done by hand, the careful pencil work and designs he creates by hand. It is all so impressive how precise and accurate he can make his pieces and show that they are handmade, he influences me to follow his determination with each piece of work and how he does not give up.
