Art has been known to sneak up upon people but for Kenny Schachter, it really did when he was avoiding studying for his law classes when he was 27. The gallery he stumbled pulled him into the art world even though he had passed the bar exam. However, being a lawyer didn’t completely hold his attention, he has found passion within art whether it’s making it- through sculpture, drawings, or paintings-, writing about it by critiquing others, or being a curator. He has immersed himself within the art world through the different mediums, taking on a completely different world then what he thought he would continue in.

The law world Is well known to be extremely different from the art world, the rules, laws, and strict confines are not present within art. The art world, I believe, had provided Kenny Schachter with the freedom that he was looking for when he had stumbled upon the art gallery showing Andy Warhol’s work. The art world, especially now a days with the addition of social media such as Instagram and the new digital mediums with loop videos, provided a way for Kenny to express what he couldn’t within his writings. It can even be seen with how he talks about the art world and how he feels about curating and how he has intertwined himself with art by participating in numerous ways for 30 years.

With curating he doesn’t just go by the appearance of a piece, but how much the artist outs Into It. The soul, the emotion, just everything that the artist is able to put into their piece can been seen through the strokes, the choices in color, and the composition. That is how he picks the pieces which I think is a good way, you can see the passion between the choices of each color and know the dedication that the artist had with each artwork created, the time, and effort behind it. This, the passion, effort, and time that an artist contributes to their pieces, I believe, should be noticed and that’s what Kenny Schachter does when he chooses which artists he curates for.

With the numerous jobs he has in addition to the writing and curating, he is able to take a piece from each world and intertwine them in how he thinks and chooses his pieces to write about and curate. Through everything that he has done, he uses his creativity and furthers the expression and wanted response of the viewer and artist in mind, which I find interesting. Here he makes the thoughts go deeper, no longer be at the surface level of what colors you see but how the movement interacts with the pieces, the colors representation, the “in-between the lines” that is looked for when reading within English classes. The combination of different mediums takes and shows the creativity that he has and influences many to continue to make art in their own way for themselves.
